To sell on Amazon you almost always need a product identifier: an EAN/GTIN. It's what lets Amazon create the listing and match it to its global catalogue. Here's the step-by-step process.
1. Get your EAN codes
Before you start, have as many EAN codes as products (and variants) you're going to list. Remember: each variant needs its own unique code. With EAN CODA you receive them by email in minutes.
2. Create the listing in Seller Central
In Seller Central, go to Catalogue → Add products. If the product already exists on Amazon, find it and add your offer. If it's new, select "I'm adding a product not sold on Amazon" and choose the category.
3. Enter the EAN as the product ID
On the identity information tab (Vital info), in the Product ID field select EAN and enter your 13-digit code. Complete the title, brand, images and the rest of the required attributes.
4. What is the GTIN exemption?
Some brands that manufacture their own products can request a GTIN exemption from Amazon to sell without a barcode. It's a specific approval process; in the meantime, the fastest and most universal option is to have your EANs ready.
5. Variants and listings with sizes/colours
If you create a listing with variations (for example, a t-shirt in several sizes), Amazon will ask you for an EAN for each variant. Assign a different code to each combination to avoid errors.
